2024 Beginning Umpire Clinic
The Inter-Athletic Council of Officials (IACO), Metro-Chicago is hosting Beginning Umpire Clinic, designed for new Umpires with little or no experience via remote learning (ZOOM). Umpires of any experience level needing Level 1 Credit may register as well. The cost is $10, while students, both high school and college, are FREE.

New Officials Basketball Class
This class is ideal for people starting out in basketball officiating with zero to 4 years of experience. New material is presented each week. Major areas of the class include high school rules, mechanics, communication, and philosophy.
To obtain IHSA clinic credit from this course, you must attend two required sessions in Week 2 and Week 3.
The class sessions are online from 7:00 – 9:00 PM on the following dates:
- Week 1: Tuesday, October 1
- Week 2: Monday, October 7 *Required Session for IHSA Clinic
- Week 3: Tuesday, October 15 *Required Session for IHSA Clinic
- Week 4: Monday, October 21
- Week 5: Tuesday, October 29
- Week 6: Monday, November 4

Coaches Clinic for Beginners
IACO in partnership with the Great Lakes Officials Association is offering a Rule Clinic for Coaches to help New coaches get insight into common rules that umpires administer and coaches’ question. We think smarter coaches and umpires makes for smarter ball players, which improves the game.
This will be presented by Dave Schopf (GLOA Vice President) and Don Collings (GLOA Softball Commissioner). Coaches have requested we cover, Pre Game Responsibilities, Dropped 3rd Strike, Infield Fly Rule, Obstruction, Interference, Look Back Rule (Softball), Balks (Baseball), Fair-Foul ball, Base awards, Pitching rule, followed by a free for all discussion.
Fall 2023 dates are Saturday September 23 from 9am and Wednesday, September 27, from 7 to 9 PM.
Spring dates are Saturday January 27 from 9 to 11am, and Wednesday, January 31 from 7 to 9 pm. The sessions will be on ZOOM and will require advance registration and a charge of $10.

Football Officiating Training Class
The Football Officials Training Class prepares the participant by covering game rules, play situations, penalty enforcement, game timing, and mechanics (positioning) through presentations and game film review. After completion of the class and earning an IHSA (Illinois State High School Association) sports officiating license, you will be given the opportunity to be assigned to officiate high school football games for the upcoming season. Officials with 1-3 years experience also find this class very advantageous and are welcome to attend.
